Alexandra House Festival Celebrates Forty Years

This year Alexandra Neighbourhood House is hosting its 40th Annual Festival. On May 31st, 2014 the festival will welcome thousands of visitors to its Crescent Beach location. The 2.5-acre facility features a combination of both heritage and modern buildings, and is fully fenced for safety. Typically the festival draws over 3,000 people of all ages. Many look forward to this popular free family event that happens on the last Saturday of each May.

A Cake Cutting at Crescent Beach

Being a landmark year, the community event will include a cake cutting ceremony. The facilities include an outdoor picnic area, where visitors and members can enjoy a piece of celebratory cake. Alexandra Neighbourhood House will also be selling refreshments on the day of the festival, and there are also some great restaurants nearby. If you choose to stay for dinner, reservations are recommended, as it’s sure to a busy day for the small beachfront community.

Supporting Local Vendors and Community Members

There are a variety of family activities at the festival, and over 60 vendors showcasing must-have items, treasures and gifts. Artisans of all kinds will offer clothing, jewellery, art, pottery, homemade soaps and much more to those who visit the event. This will be a great opportunity to buy locally made wares directly from artisans, and to meet other members of the community. If you’re interested in participating as a vendor at this popular community festival, each $75.00 table rental includes membership to the Alexandra Neighbourhood House.

Showcasing Multiculturalism with Local Talent

This year the entertainment focuses on multiculturalism by showcasing various live performances. From 11:00am to 5:00pm performers on the outdoor stage will entertain young and old alike. The World Rhythm Drumming Group, Chris Hamilton and classical Italian dancer Malavika Santhosh are just a few of the talents taking the stage for this event. Many other local artists will be performing on the day of the 40th Annual Alexandra Neighbourhood House Festival as well.

Getting the Word Out to Find a Following
